Ein letzter Dank dem Leichtathleten – Ein Abend für Detlev Meyer anlässlich seines 25. Todestages

The poet and writer Detlev Meyer (born in Berlin in 1948, died there in 1999) occupied a special position in the
attitude and style in the 80s and 90s. DIE ZEIT called him "the only
dandy of contemporary German literature". He published a total of four volumes of poetry, making his debut with Heute Nacht im Dschungel. 50 poems. (Oberbaumverlag 1981). His last volume, Stern in Sicht (Männerschwarm-Skript-Verlag), was published a year before his death. Meyer's work is form-conscious and ironic, and this is particularly true of his novel trilogy Biographie der Bestürzung (published by Eremiten-Presse), which made him better known in the second half of the 1980s. He was one of the few German writers to live an openly homosexual life, and one of the few to deal artistically with the subject of AIDS and its consequences at an early stage. With great skill, he contrasts the banality and horror of our existence with a cheerful serenity. In other words, he was able to be serious with ease. A selection of his poems, Korrekte Anmache. Love poems. (Männerschwarm-Skript-Verlag 2004), and the childhood novel Das Sonnenkind (Aufbau Verlag 2001) were published posthumously.
