The writer Hermann Allmers (1821 - 1902), who was born in Rechtenfleth, became nationally known during his lifetime as a "marsh poet". He wrote primarily about the culture and landscape of his home region, but was also a cosmopolitan wanderer between north and south, between town and country, as he explored distant lands. On all his travels, he sought contact with writers, artists and scientists, as evidenced by his estate of more than 11,000 letters. After a long trip to Italy in 1860, he had his parents' farmhouse on the dyke redesigned with the help of artist friends such as Dietrich Kropp and Arthur Fitger. Since then, the thatched Allmers house has nestled picturesquely in an enchanted garden. Immerse yourself in the late romantic cosmos of Allmers at a summer festival with music, literature, art and culinary delights! Conceived as a changing concert, performances in the culture barn, in the garden and in impressive interior spaces such as the antique hall and the marsh hall bring Allmers' world view, that home and foreign are not mutually exclusive, but rather complementary, back into consciousness.
