A Midsummer Night's Dream

A pop comedy freely adapted from William Shakespeare in a version for Theater Lüneburg by Gregor Müller and Philip Richert

"Struwwelpeter", "The Black Rider", "The Tempest": Anyone who was a fan of these productions - and many were - will probably also be looking forward to "A Midsummer Night's Dream". It is the next big project from the Müller / Richert team. Once again, they are designing a set in their very own style with Swana Gutke. And as with "Tempest", they are writing the setting and the music together with Olaf Niebuhr. And once again, they turn to one of William Shakespeare's great plays, which itself promises to be full of life, comedy and a good dose of sentiment.

"How happy some people can be" is the title of one of the songs. How happy some people can be. The lovers in this famous comedy by Shakespeare are not at all. Hermia loves Lysander, but is supposed to marry Demetrius. He, in turn, is loved by Helena, but rejects her. Jealousy leads to heated arguments - on the eve of the wedding of Theo and Hilde, Duke and Queen of the Amazons in the original, whereas in Müller / Richert's version it is the mayor and widow, who have become close at a shooting festival. In general: the village and its inhabitants! They rehearse a play for the wedding and rumble their way through the language, plot and characters, sometimes more, sometimes less giftedly: "Let me play the lion too!"

The lovers flee into the forest - and immerse themselves in the magical world of Oberon and Titania, who fight out their own love affairs. The mysterious Puck, on the other hand, plays his own confusing game. Love still wins out in the end. Or does it?
