Charles Dickens read by Hans-Jürgen Schatz
The heartless old miser Ebenezer Scrooge has nothing in mind for Christmas. The well-intentioned invitation of his nephew to the family Christmas dinner Scrooge refuses brusquely. He berates his poor clerk Bob Cratchit for having to give him a day off for the holiday....
On this Christmas night, Scrooge is haunted by the ghost of Marley, his former business partner. This one promises him a bad end if he does not change. One after the other, the ghosts of the past, present and future Christmases appear. They show him the happiness he has missed out on through his greed and selfishness, but also the loneliness in which he will one day die. Deeply affected, Scrooge changes his life from the next morning.
Charles Dickens (1812-1870) succeeds in creating a world of fairy tales of reality with his famous story "A Christmas Carol in Prose". Hans-Jürgen Schatz has arranged the text for the reading podium and puts the audience in the mood for Christmas with the story of Ebenezer Scrooge in the Bruckner Foyer of the Renaissance Theater.
