Inclusion is considered an important social task of our time. The term itself identifies the problem, namely that people are socially excluded due to their origin, sexuality, religion, mental or physical condition. They are excluded by the same "majority", which then wants to include them again - according to its own values and rules.
Many people with disabilities do not see themselves or society as a problem. As far as they can, they participate in social life and have their own ideas of what good coexistence could look like. But they are rarely asked about it. Their knowledge of barriers in everyday life and of the violence of the social expectation that people must adapt and "function" (under all circumstances) remains invisible to the majority of their fellow human beings.
einfach machen focuses on the interest of people who want to get to know different perceptions of the world and different needs in dealing with each other. The exhibition project is the result of a collective process involving people with and without disabilities. In addition to artistic works, it also includes the results of the inclusion seminar of the illustration class at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. Areas of activity and recreation will be set up in the exhibition space. In a studio space within the exhibition, interested visitors can get to know artistic techniques and materials, try them out and refine their skills. The space is equipped with workstations for different physical needs. This communal and publicly accessible studio space is intended to be a permanent feature of the GfZK.
