Eldenaer Klostermarkt

Once a year, the place that became the starting point for the founding of the town of Greifswald with the establishment of the Cistercian monastery more than 800 years ago is a hive of market activity: The University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald organizes a monastery market in the park of the Eldena monastery ruins and in the monastery barn.

Mainly craftsmen and traders from the region present their guilds. Visitors can look, buy, try, eat, find out and linger at over 80 stands and stations.

The products on offer range from herbal tea and local vegetables to art and small items of furniture made from wood, book and paper art, ceramics, woodwork, jewelry and blacksmithing, natural materials, felt, leather and lace making, soaps and candles. A blacksmith, a baker, a weaver, a coin maker, wood turners and other market participants produce on site.

Guests young and old can also get hands-on and make paper, write with pen and ink, make candles, print bags, weave willow ropes, felt and much more.

Free admission to the market, but it is recommended to carry a few coins in your wallet for selected hands-on activities, archery, Ferris wheel, consumption, food and drink.

The Eldena Monastery Market has been taking place since 2014 and is organized by the Office for Education, Culture and Sport, Department of Culture and the Office for Citizen Services and Fire Protection, Department of Markets/Events of the University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald.
