Electric Lights is coming to Bochum for the first time. The series combines DJ and live sets in the planetarium with immersive 360-degree projections, photography and contemporary electronic music. On October 28, 2026, Katja Ruge, the initiator of the project, will open the evening, after which DJ Mell G from Frankfurt will take over with another DJ set.
The starting point is a fascination with space and the big questions about origins, the future and what lies beyond our imagination. This is where the cosmos and electronic music meet. Hardly any other genre thinks so naturally in terms of open structures, movement and energy. Electronic music pushes boundaries, dissolves fixed forms and creates moments in which individual and collective experience combine in new ways.
Electric Lights focuses on female artists and their perspectives on electronic music. A long-term photographic project by Katja Ruge for Kaput Magazine gave rise to the idea of not only capturing these voices visually, but also giving them a space in which they can play different and special DJ and live sets away from the club. To date, the invited artists have included Helena Hauff, Lena Willikens, JakoJako, Akua, Cinthie and Joyce Muniz. The spectrum ranges from electro and techno to experimental and atmospheric approaches, showcasing the diversity of contemporary electronic music.
The sets take place in the Full Dome and are accompanied by immersive 360-degree projections of the planetarium. The set-up is complemented by a floating portrait installation of Katja Ruge under the dome at the beginning of the evening. This combination of science, technology and AV live visuals gives electronic music a new home under the dome of the Bochum Planetarium.
