That's how it is among siblings: Their relationship is often as intimate as it is difficult. It was no different with Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn, the most famous brother and sister in music history. Only slowly was Fanny able to step out of the overpowering shadow of her famous brother.

She was already 40 when she published her first work. Against the will of her younger brother, who at that time still represented the common cliché that women were at most capable of composing small, lyrical pieces, but lacked the strength for larger forms. What a misunderstanding! With the Piano Trio op. 11 and the String Quartet in E-flat Major, which are combined in this program with chamber works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, the musicians of the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival around pianist and festival director Elena Bashkirova impressively demonstrate what the composer Fanny Mendelssohn was capable of.
