Elisabeth Lenk's critical writings express a way of thinking that moves confidently and with great naturalness between critical theory and surreal practice and which, in everything it focuses its attention on, revolves around the question of how and why aesthetic thinking and political engagement are mutually dependent. Whether it is the defense of the critical content of mimetic forms of expression in the paradigm of dreamlike modes of writing, the pariah consciousness of women writers, the break with the taboo of depictions of violence or revolutionary reflections on the relationship between literature and time - these are always original configurations of a new literary aesthetic that declares war on the mistrust of everything aesthetic that is deeply rooted in German intellectual history. Rita Bischof, philosopher and sociologist, has published numerous books and essays, initially in the fields of the philosophy of history and the aesthetics of modernism as well as on the complex of mass and power, but has made a name for herself in particular as an expert on the works of Georges Bataille and surrealism. As editor, she is presenting Lenk's critical writings for the first time.
