ELJO was formed with the aim of pushing musical boundaries by merging programmed, repetitive electronic music with improvised jazz. Elias and Johannes both began their careers as jazz musicians, but felt increasingly exhausted by the pressure to perform and the competitive nature of the jazz scene.
In search of new forms of expression, they turned to other genres such as pop, hip-hop, electronic music and folk. With ELJO, they now combine the best of their jazz past with modern electronic sounds to create a contemporary, future-oriented sound.
In 2024 and 2025, ELJO played several successful concerts, including at the Moorjazz Festival, where JazzNyt critic Niels Overgaard wrote: "ELJO do things differently. Together they have found their own musical language."
In the spring of 2025, ELJO released their debut album "Merging" with preceding singles on the Blikflak label. The album received rave reviews from All That and JazzNyt and was featured on P8 JAZZ with the title "Beneath Simple Stars".
