"One must not talk about this story - at least not to those who have not yet read it!", is the message of this novel, first published in 1938, which tells the dramatic development of a friendship in changing times with moving simplicity: "What happens to others today can happen to you tomorrow", is the message of the former best friends Max and Martin, who lose each other forever on this evening, played by Michael von Au and Stefan Wilkening.
