In "human|nature", image and music merge into a total work of art, an emotional journey, an artistic metaphor of human ambivalence.
The journey begins with Orbit for violoncello solo by Philip Glass, virtuoso, expressively dance-like and painfully gentle, followed by the "Sonata for piano and violoncello" by Sergei Rachmaninov. Initially gloomy and desperate, it finds its way from darkness to light on its turbulent path full of emotional depth and passionate dialog. As if time stood still, at the end of this musical journey you glide through light-flooded infinity with "Spiegel im Spiegel" by Arvo Pärt.
Along the way, you encounter images that tell of the inseparable, fateful relationship between man and nature. Photographer Tom Hegen documents the traces left by man on the earth's surface in impressive aerial photographs. With precise image compositions, he provides fascinating insights into the complex interplay between human activity and the resulting changes to the landscape. His work is characterized by abstract, often graphic perspectives of man-made landscapes. Tom Hegen's photographs are a warning in an age of climate change and resource scarcity. Man must find ways to enter into a dialog with the
enter into a dialog with the environment. He must create what Arvo Pärt creates in his music: a dialog of voices that interpenetrate clearly and in relation to each other as if they were a single instrument.
