Music for chamber orchestra - refreshingly different!
Referring to Schönberg's work of the same name, John Adams took the plunge from the Viennese school into minimalism in 1992 with his "Chamber Symphony", albeit with his own signature: "full of energy, joy and a hunger for life" (Sir Simon Rattle).
"Upon Weightless Wings" by Grace-Evangeline Mason - "It is a work written to celebrate new beginnings, to have weightless wings." The young British composer, a multiple award-winning high-flyer in the world of classical music, creates floating worlds of sound with a fine sense of instrumental color. Each movement of the work is
inspired by a work of art.
Nikolai Kapustin, born in 1927, lived and worked in the Soviet Union and was only really discovered here at the beginning of the 21st century. In his "Chamber Symphony", traditional classical elements merge seamlessly with vital jazz. "Our life is like a jazz improvisation, it should always be spontaneous, always in the moment and always free."
