Spanish Renaissance music is hardly known here, but the treasures of this 16th century style are well worth unearthing and performing. Fortunately, the artfully composed works have been collected, such as in the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat from the monastery of the same name in Catalonia. In order to bring this music to a wider audience, María Martínez Gabaldón founded the ensemble La Gallarda together with fellow students from the Institute for Early Music at the Trossingen University of Music. Respect for heritage and topicality come together here: The music is played on original instruments, and at the same time the thoughts and moods of the music are related to our present day.
