Multimoni and Jens Heller - ENTROPIA
Vernissage 23.04.26, 18:00 to 21:00
23.04. - 06.06.2026 artrelations Gallery
In the exhibition ENTROPIA, the two artists Multimoni and Jens Heller show a world that has come apart at the seams. The title refers to the concept of entropy: a measure of change, decay and transformation. In the works on display, this principle is understood not only as a scientific idea, but also as a poetic state. The works deal with the themes of nature, animals and humans. What consequences do human activities have on nature? Do humans function as destroyers or shapers of their environment? What solutions can be found for peaceful coexistence? The ENTROPIA exhibition brings together paintings that deal with the state of transition - with moments in which order slowly turns into disorder and yet new structures are formed.
The artist Monika Duhme, born in Oldenburg in 1967, has been using the artist name Multimoni since 1997. This name stands for her successful work in various artistic genres and for the play with different roles into which the artist likes to slip, much to the confusion of her audience. Her works repeatedly show a wide variety of animal species in striking poses. Humans, when they are represented, are rather disturbing. Multimoni works with various techniques, such as acrylic on canvas or ink drawing. Multimoni has been working in Los Abrigos/Tenerife and Berlin since 2019. Multimoni is also the owner and creative head of the Berlin jewelry brand TomShot.
Jens Heller, born in 1966 in Oldenburg, works in a purely formal figurative, very classical and realistic manner. His aim is to keep the surface of the picture as smooth as possible, to fit into a classical tradition of picture making. He therefore produces his paintings in oil on canvas. Even if a precisely worked drapery or a feathered dress might at first make you think of old masters, it is clear from the dystopian-looking burning landscapes or frogs in garish latex suits that these are very modern and abstract works.
Entropy in everyday life can be seen wherever disorder increases: A tidy room inevitably becomes messy, ice melts into water, to name just a few examples.
Entropy in philosophy takes the approach that our current era will continue to suffer massively from ever greater problems due to wasted energy, loss of biodiversity, shrinking glaciers, war and social disorganization. Entropy can also be read positively, in the sense that change is a fundamental force of any form of life and design. We humans strive for stability and must therefore try to shape the future - ENTROPIA understands chaos not as an end, but as a productive state and invites the viewer to help shape the future.
