with Marcello Mastroianni, Joaquim de Almeida, Daniel Auteuil and others
Lisbon 1938: The cultural editor of a small newspaper, who has become comfortable after the death of his wife, is torn from his disinterest in fascism in Portugal by the enthusiasm of a newly acquired author and conversations with a doctor. When the employee is murdered, he publicly denounces the regime.
This congenial film adaptation of a successful novel paints a touching portrait of a man who, in old age, once again finds the strength to change a life frozen in fatalism and passivity. Touchingly staged and atmospherically photographed, the film impresses above all with the outstanding acting of Marcello Mastroianni and the music of the great Ennio Morricone.
The film is part of the "Best of Babylon" series and will be presented by Helga from the cinema group. Before the movie, we invite you to sparkling wine and a breakfast buffet from 10:30 am.
With the "Best of Babylon" series, we will celebrate our 30th anniversary in 2026 with monthly matinee screenings at which members of the cinema group will each present a highlight from the program of the last 30 years.
