In Schmidt's one-act Singspiel "Die Alpenhütte" (1816), a mountain accident brings a quarrelling family back together, not without ironic side-swipes at the all-too-human egotism of some contemporaries. Marschner's folk opera "Der Kyffhäuserberg" (1817) revolves around a pair of lovers who, with the help of the wine cellar guarded by a witch in the famous Kyffhäuser, are refused permission to marry. There are also some fairytale-like and amusing incidents in this village.
