In the organizer's words:

TheOpen Area—a new kind of space at the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg. With its areas facing the city, it is open to interested residents of the city as well as the region’s immediate and extended neighbors. As an open space for participation, theOpen Areais accessible free of charge and invites visitors to linger, engage in conversation, and get involved.

To mark the opening of theOpen Area, the performance*Kras û Fistan / Untitled*will bepresentedon Friday, July 3, at 5:30 p.m.,underthe artistic direction of and featuringFerhat Kartal. The work is being created in collaboration with theater directorMizgîn Bilmen andartist and researcherHavîn Al-Sîndy, andwill be accompanied by musicianDevran Amedas well asKurdish students from the Braunschweig University of Art.

With theOpen Area, the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg is opening a space that is deliberately aimed at the city’s community. As a freely accessible place situated at the intersection of the museum and public space, it invites visitors to linger, engage in dialogue, and actively participate. In close connection with the themes of the current exhibitions, the museum’s education department collaborates with local initiatives, associations, and partners to develop a diverse program of workshops, temporary events, and discussion forums. TheOpen Areasees itself as a dynamic platform where social issues are explored and new forms of coexistence are tested.

The performance*Kras û Fistan / Untitled* tiesdirectly into this concept. Building on the work*Kras û Fistan | der Stoff* byHavîn Al-Sîndy, a collective practice unfolds that intertwines movement, sound, and memory. Under the direction of Ferhat Kartal, a performative space emerges in which individual and shared stories are inscribed and transformed.

Central motifs of the work are sound and rhythm as vehicles of community and resistance. Dêw stands for drum, heartbeat, call, and gathering, while Zirnê describes a sonic distance—a pull that unfolds and recurs as one listens. In this connection, dance becomes an experience of resistance and a form of collective memory.

As the opening event ofthe Open Area, the performance sets the tone for its programmatic direction: an open, participatory space where art functions as a social and political medium and diverse perspectives converge.
