With SYNTHETIC EXISTENCE: THE GAZE OF THE CIRCUITED COLLECTIVE , the G2 Kunsthalle is presenting a solo exhibition by the painter Jana Schröder. Schröder's work is characterized by an intuitive practice from which pictorial worlds emerge that condense into largely non-objective landscapes through the interplay of repetition, chance and conception. These elude unambiguous legibility and at the same time repeatedly trigger associations with figurative objects familiar to the viewer. As part of the exhibition at the G2 Kunsthalle, the artist explores the visual language of science fiction films from the 1960s and 1970s. Schröder's works take up these depictions and thematize the encounter with the alien. In the exhibition, the works are arranged in such a way that they surround the viewer. This encounter creates ambivalent feelings: the forms can appear repulsive, threatening or dangerous, but can also trigger curiosity and the desire to explore and understand the unknown. The result is a tension between attraction and aversion that keeps perception in constant motion. The exhibition unfolds ambivalent resonance spaces in which organic and technical ideas are interwoven with each other, as are fascination and threat. Against the backdrop of current social, political and ecological crises, Schröder's pictorial strategies take on a contemporary relevance that links the past, present and future.
