Blessing in chains in the old man's hall

Egon Krenz fared under Erich Honecker in much the same way as Prince Charles under Queen Elizabeth II: he spent most of his life lying in wait. Friedrich Merz also had to wait a whole Angela Merkel - what felt like an eternity! - for his candidacy for chancellor. Succession needs to be sorted out! Catholics, for example, believe that their priest received his job qualification, the ordination, directly from the Apostle Peter through a chain of blessings that has not been broken for around 1,992 years. Of course, this sounds crazy and is therefore described with the term "apostolic succession", because: Latin used to be about as superduper as the word "algorithm" is nowadays, i.e. something mysterious that you don't really understand and that everyone thinks is most probably super important. Papal elections are a good example of this. Old people are locked up in a really beautifully painted chapel and only let out again when a valet in a funny cheesecake uniform burns the ballot papers together with potassium chlorate to produce "fumus albus", i.e. white smoke. And anyone smiling arrogantly here is very much mistaken. Being old-fashioned is an underestimated weapon! It could, for example, be the meteorite that Elon Musk's Mars rockets smash into. Who will succeed Donald Trump? Goofy? Or a real person for a change? The world doesn't have to get crazier and crazier just because it keeps turning!

In its 17th program, the "Erste Allgemeine Babenhäuser Pfarrer(!)-Kabarett" explores the question of how much power lies in the resistance of the unfashionable. If you're thinking about your grandma's ecological footprint or the circumstances surrounding your first French kiss, you're probably on the right track....
