Ethnografie und Extraktivismus – Textwerkstatt

PICK OF THE DAY Spoken word
PICK OF THE DAY
You cannot miss this event.
In the organizer's words:

Whether oil, saltpetre or lithium - the extraction of natural resources and extractivist practices have shaped human life, local economies and environments in the past and present. From May 24, 2024, MARKK will be showing the exhibition "White Desert Gold. Chile Saltpetre and Hamburg", which focuses on the working and living conditions of saltpetre workers in the Atacama Desert in Chile.

How do relationships of power, violence and (post)colonial exploitation reinforce ongoing social and economic inequalities? At Zwischenraum, we invite you to join us in reading and critically discussing selected ethnographic studies on the topic of extractivism. We will approach local economies, negotiation processes, actors and their experiences, perceptions and interpretations of the consequences of extractivism.

Moderation: Caroline Schäfer, Manuel Bolz
