It all begins with euphoria: the Eastern Bloc collapses, the Wall is gone, freedom has arrived, and Europe becomes borderless. And connected. The internet goes mainstream, the first clunky cell phones appear, and text messaging is born. On commercial TV, daily soaps and talk shows flicker away. Viva and MTV broadcast music videos on a continuous loop, while skinheads in bomber jackets usher in the “baseball bat years.” Pop, politics, war, and chaos stand side by side.

A wild mixtape of supermodels and war images, grunge and Eurotrash, girl power and dystopia, hip boy bands and young Nazis, demolition clubs and Tamagotchis heralds the Europe we know today. With *EuroDance*, Ostruschnjak, together with the Dance Company Theater Osnabrück and students from ArtEZ University of the Arts, looks at a continent caught between a spirit of optimism and the end of the world.
