When music discovered onomatopoeia

A jousting match, barking dogs, quarrelling cats and an apparent organist who loses himself in improvisations: In the 17th century, on the threshold from the Renaissance to the Baroque, composers such as Claudio Monteverdi and Carlo Farina discovered musical effects and new playing techniques for themselves. The Europa Galante ensemble, "spirited and elegant" (Gramophone), is made for this music. Ian Bostridge, "one of the most fascinating singers of our time" (SWR Kultur), enriches the evening with his expressive voice.
