The first autofictional graphic novel about classism, in which Eva Müller traces her story and the story of her family.
"Scheiblettenkind", "Schmuddelkuh", "Assitussi" - these are just a few of the swear words Eva Müller's protagonist had to listen to again and again in her youth. Scold words with which she, who did not come from a privileged background, was ostracized and which were meant to relegate her to her place.
In this autofictional graphic novel, she tells her story and the story of her family. In clear, powerful, impressive images of astonishing aesthetic variety, she tells of her grandparents' rural origins, of her parents' working-class Western milieu, of growing up uneducated and poor, of social shame, of the stench of deep-frying grease, of her cheap clothes with silly patches, of her alienation from her origins, and finally of her emancipation as an artist - and always with her is the snake of self-doubt that, regardless of her success to this day, refuses to leave her side.
Eva Müller, born 1981 in southern Germany, studied illustration in Hamburg and works as a freelance comic artist, author and artist. Her comics and books have won several awards.
