Sunday, February 15 is the 45th World Whale Day - a day that draws attention to the importance of whales and their current threats. To mark the occasion, Panometer Leipzig is offering exciting themed tours.

Antarctic krill is the secret hero of the Antarctic. The small crustaceans are only about 6 cm in size and yet are the most important source of food for many animals in the Southern Ocean: many seals, penguins and whales depend on the swarms of krill. However, climate change and the increasing expansion of krill fishing are causing problems for the stocks. To mark International Whale Day, Meike Schützek, founder of the ocean conservation NGO Ocean. Now! takes you on an exciting tour of Yadegar Asisi's panoramic exhibition ANTARKTIS. She shows why krill are so crucial for the ecosystem and what measures can help to protect these little heroes. This will be followed by a short film about the current media campaign "No krill, no whales: How industrial krill fishing is endangering the foundations of the Southern Ocean - and why our consumption plays a role". Afterwards there will be plenty of time for your questions. The Panometer will remain open for you on this day until 6 pm.
