Actually, it should be a mere formality: Heribert (Hape Kerkeling), long-standing chairman of the Lengenheide tennis club, and his ambitious deputy Matthias (Friedrich Mücke) put the purchase of a barbecue for the next club party to a vote.

But then the hip advertising copywriter Torsten (Christoph Maria Herbst), who has moved to the provinces from Berlin, comes up with a snappy line to bring the dull meeting to a quick end. His wife Melanie (Anja Knauer) suggests getting a second barbecue for her double partner Erol (Fahri Yardim), the only Muslim member of the club - because devout Muslims are not allowed to cook their sausages on a grill with pork.

This well-intentioned idea turns into a turbulent exchange of blows: atheists and believers, Germans and Turks, do-gooders and hardliners clash head-on. It soon becomes clear that there is much more at stake than just a barbecue.
