Ezra Collective, winners of the Mercury Music Prize 2023, return today with their first single of the year, Ajala, available now on Partisan Records. The new single kicks off the band's return with the promise of a highly anticipated new album. Today, the critically acclaimed band also announces their upcoming tour.
The quintet that brought jazz into the mainstream are back on stage with Ajala on the cover of today's ES Magazine. The single, which combines the sounds of afrobeats and highlife with jazz, is a nod to the nomadic spirit of the infamous Olabisi Ajala, the Ghanaian-Nigerian world adventurer who ambitiously traveled around the world on his scooter, crossing 87 countries in the process. Fans can see the band perform Ajala and their other discography live later this year.

Ajala the traveler is a journalist from Nigeria whose story is really beautiful. He decided to travel the world on a moped and that's how his name became slang in Yoruba.
Ajala travel is slang for someone who can't sit still. That's how a lot of people would describe me, but for me it's also what a great drum beat does, what great music does to me, it means I can't sit still and I just want to move. Ajala is all about that movement.
The year 2023 was a milestone for Ezra Collective. Not only were they the first jazz act to win the Mercury Prize for their critically acclaimed album Where I'm Meant To Be, but they also sold out their entire UK/EU/US tour (including 10.000 tickets for their Hammersmith & Royal Albert Hall gigs), won Best Jazz Act at last year's MOBO Awards, put on one of the most talked about sets at Glastonbury Festival, performed at Quincy Jones' star-studded birthday party, were named Time Out's Londoners of the Year 2023 and finished the year as the final guests of 2023 on The Graham Norton Show & Top of the Pops Review of 2023.
