Fainschmitz begins again

Fainschmitz begins again is the result of a long search for a new band-specific aesthetic. After two albums strongly influenced by gypsy swing rhythms, the band wanted to find a sound that was more restrained and repetitive, more rumbling, danceable and catchy in a different way. By adding a reduced drum set, switching from guitar to banjo and from trumpet to trombone, the first parameters were set for working on a new repertoire.

This is now primarily characterized by off-beats with rocksteady influences and gentle, unpretentious melodies, sometimes energetic and exuberant, sometimes balladic and meditative. As on the first two albums, melancholy and lightness run through the songs and abstruse, sentimental lyrics can be heard over a megaphone.

The recording setting is essential for the album: all songs were recorded live in the same room and almost exclusively via a single room microphone and on tape. Fainschmitz begins again aims - far from overproduction - to create a consistently cozy, acoustic backdrop in which one is carried through life by simple melodies.
