Faithless + Incognito, Stereo MC's & Kosheen

PICK OF THE DAY Concerts & Music
PRESENTED
by Rausgegangen - for you.
In the organizer's words:

Eight years have passed since their last live performance, around a year and a half since the tragic death of singer and founding member Maxi Jazz - but Faithless never stopped making music and in summer 2024 they can finally be seen live again: Faithless marks the return to the live stage of a band that began an incredible global career almost three decades ago. Since the mid-1990s, Faithless' 'Insomnia' has been an integral part of clubs around the world. The song became the blueprint for a clever electronic hit. This was followed by further successes such as "God Is A DJ", which made Faithless one of the most successful dance acts in the world. One reason for this success is Faithless' inimitable ability to combine elements of house, hip-hop, trip-hop, ambient and trance. On the other hand, their live presence is unique in this genre. On stage, Faithless are almost nobody's fool.

Except perhaps Incognito. The Brits were the flagship of the English label Talkin' Loud, which in the 1990s determined what acid jazz, this combination of jazz, funk, soul and the then emerging smooth hip hop, should sound like. Founded by Jean-Paul "Bluey" Maunick, the collective had a string of hits and defined the sound of an entire generation.

Stereo MC's , in turn, were the first British hip-hoppers to enter the US charts with their track "Elevate My Mind". Later, rapper Rob B. and DJ together with producer Nick the Head Hallam achieved an absolute global hit with "Connected". What was remarkable about it was that it and the entire album were recorded without samples (which was revolutionary at the time) using only live music. You can still hear this sound today - and it is still the basis for the British duo being counted among the best and most driving hip-hop artists live.

The drum'n'bass trio Kosheen have also taken up a similar cause: combining electronic music with traditional songwriting. It's no coincidence that their name consists of the Japanese words for "old" and "new". The band created an enormously complex sound spectrum and took the world by storm with their hypnotic breakbeats at the end of the 90s. And as befits this fantastic line-up, Kosheen are also masters of the stage and set their audience in motion with ease.

The IFA Summer Garden program on Saturday, 7 September 2024, starts at 4.30 pm with a show by Bristol trip-hop veterans Kosheen. Stereo MCs will take to the stage at 5.45 pm, followed by the acid jazz formation Incognito at 7.15 pm. The finale with Faithless starts at 8.45 pm.
