FALLEN CROONER & MALSTROM

FALL CROONER:
In his latest project "Fallen Crooner", the German-Romanian double bassist and composer Robert Lucaciu defrag-ments his own (cis-)male self-image and challenges the musicians Laura Totenhagen, Pascal Klewer, Shannon Barnett, Sofía Salvo and Moritz Baumgärtner to a pleasurable discourse on gender roles. In a montage of Lucaciu's own compositions, well-known songs and text sequences by various authors, free improvisation repeatedly forms a central element - questioning the moment with an open outcome. This results in a musical discussion whose strength lies in living the questions in all their force and dissolving the urgency of quick answers into benevolence. Each musician can celebrate their own diversity and savor all the nuances that their own instrument has to offer.

MALSTROM:
Fish and other sea creatures instinctively avoid the vicinity of the whirlpool, while humans repeatedly fall victim to their uncontrollable curiosity and venture too close.
With guitar, saxophone and drums, the three musicians manage to create more colors and associative spaces than one would expect from the small line-up and have so much fun with deconstruction that their music becomes an all-round humorous commentary on the possibilities of contemporary jazz.
