Familie und Religion
In the organizer's words:
Two silk paintings on display illustrate the theme of “family”: First, there is a depiction of the nursing goddess Hariti, who is revered as the protector of children. The other is an exceptionally rare and recently restored silk painting depicting female Manichaean clergy (Electae) who left their families to devote themselves entirely to their religion.
Curator The temporary exhibition is curated by Lilla Russell-Smith, curator of Central Asian art at the Museum of Asian Art of the State Museums in Berlin. “Family and Religion” is the rotating exhibition within the permanent exhibition “Art from the Northern Silk Road” at the Museum of Asian Art of the State Museums in Berlin.
