Fanfare Ciocarlia

Fanfare Ciocărlia is one of the most captivating live bands in the world. Their energy thrills fans from Melbourne to Memphis. The musicians, who learned their craft from fathers and grandfathers, see every concert as a mission to inspire the audience and keep the spirit of Roma music alive.

The brass band comes from the remote village of Zece Prăjini in north-eastern Romania. There - shielded from the rest of the world - the Ottoman tradition of brass music for weddings, funerals and festivals has been preserved. In 1996, German music lover Henry Ernst discovered the band and brought it to international stages.

Fanfare Ciocărlia conquered Europe as early as 1997. Their breathtaking tempo, technical virtuosity and unmistakable sound thrilled fans from punk to jazz - even in renowned concert halls. This was later followed by tours of the USA, Japan and Australia. Their music, described by The Times as a "heavy, heavy monster sound", turned concerts around the world into roaring celebrations.

The band appeared in films such as "Iag Bari" and Head-On, contributed music to the Borat soundtrack and reinterpreted classics such as the James Bond theme. She has enjoyed international success with projects such as "Gypsy Queens & Kings" and "Balkan Brass Battle".

Twelve albums, over 4,000 concerts and top positions in the world music charts speak for themselves: hardly any other brass band sounds faster, wilder and more distinctive than Fanfare Ciocărlia.
