Fantômas

Fantômas, Part I, Fantômas or In the Shadow of the Guillotine. A mysterious criminal puts all of Paris in fear and terror. Wherever he commits a murder or a theft, he leaves his calling card: Fantômas! Princess Sonia Davidoff lives in the Palace Hotel on the Champs Elysées. One evening she asks for 120,000 francs from the hotel safe, which she takes to her suite. There, an unknown man awaits her, who politely but firmly asks her to hand over the money. The princess, stiff with horror, obeys. When the thief prepares to leave her, she rushes to the telephone and sounds the alarm. Fantômas locks her in. Immediately, all the exits of the hotel are barred in order to lure the thief through the main portal. There they hope to catch him. Fantômas has no choice but to transform himself into the elevator boy. The latter, summoned by the princess, is slain by Fantômas as he steps out of the elevator. Fantômas dresses in his uniform and takes off the false beard he had used when he entered. No one recognizes him when he asks for the key to the main door at the reception desk and leaves the hotel, ostensibly to get the police. When the dead elevator boy is discovered a little later, Fantômas has already gone into hiding again. Some time after this robbery, Lord Beltham, a rich Englishman, disappears as if from the face of the earth ...
