Punk rock musical based on George Orwell

George Orwell's 1945 political fable about totalitarian systems as a punk rock musical against abuse of power and extremism.

The animals on Manor Farm are fed up. Their daily food ration is meagre and they have to work until they drop - or until they are killed. When the farmer forgets to feed them one morning, the animals start a rebellion: they chase him off the farm and begin to organize themselves - with the aim of realizing their vision, in which all animals are equal. But a new elite soon emerges. Corrupted by power, the pigs put themselves at the head of the new order and proclaim: "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others."

In this literary classic, the musical company of the Theater für Niedersachsen addresses themes such as oppression, power, abuse of power and the dream of freedom, equality and brotherhood. Written at the time as a reckoning with the communist revolution of 1917, there are a frightening number of parallels that make the material seem highly topical again today.
