The animals on an English farm rise up against the rule of their owner, who neglects and exploits them. After initial successes and a period of prosperity, the pigs increasingly take the lead. Soon afterward, their new gains are at stake, and the animals’ hard-won equality crumbles: “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.” Through George Orwell’s grim fable, eight young people venture—through a blend of incisive storytelling and theatrical performance—to explore the depths of human triumphs and abysses. In times when democracy and the rule of law are being recklessly called into question, this classic is more relevant than ever.

The production “Animal Farm” was funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as part of the federal program “Jugend erinnert” (Youth Remembers), under the funding line “SED Injustice,” with support from the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship.

The production *Animal Farm* is the recipient of the 2024 “amarena” German Amateur Theater Award.
