"Blackbird" is back!

Exactly ten years after its release, Fat Freddy's Drop asked a few friends if they would like to take on a track from the great album. The result is a fantastic remix/dub version that captures the spirit of the original work while adding new and exciting sounds to the relaxed sound of the New Zealand band. Just listen to The KBCS' version of the title track (and watch the accompanying video), which FFD describe as "hazy psychedelic funk in the garden. Hamburg grooves via Berlin's Sonar Kollektiv." Above all, however, it relieves the band of the obligation to record a new album when they would much rather be on the road and partying on stage. Just like this summer, when Fat Freddy's Drop were on tour in Europe and celebrated a five-hour party with Tash Sultana at the Waldbühne in Berlin.

Since their first record "Based On A True Story" - eleven times platinum in their native New Zealand! - the collective has stood for relaxed grooving dub reggae, mixed with a lot of cool funk, a well-placed hip hop beat here and there - and all without drums! Producer and DJ Fitchie does it all. Jazz and folk influences or a bluesy horn section round off the melange. Add to this the extremely cool voice of Joe Dukie and the result is extended and chilled masterpieces that drip out of the speakers in a relaxed yet danceable manner.

According to reports, Fat Freddy's Drop are actually working on a new album. What is certain, however, is that they will be back on tour with us. -
