John Waters describes Female Trouble as a "fictional biopic about a woman who is brainwashed into believing that crime is beautiful". Schoolgirl Dawn Davenport (Divine) embarks on an abysmal road trip into a life of crime, lined with numerous monstrosities - including a grotesquely exaggerated depiction of sexual violence, in which Divine plays both victim and perpetrator. A bitter satire on beauty mania and the cult of celebrity!
