FERIEN Thomas Arslan D 2007 OmeU 91' Four generations of a family come together in a country house in the Uckermark during the vacation season. A summer idyll, one might think. But the constellation is fragile: the landlady Anna (Angela Winkler) wants to sell the house, the relationship between daughter Laura (Karoline Eichhorn) and her husband Paul (Uwe Bohm) is falling apart, Anna's mother is in poor health and daughter Sophie is causing further unrest. Teasing is the order of the day and conflicts break out. The camera remains motionless and unmoved at all times, taking pictures of nature alongside the family scenes, showing swaying treetops and the rustling of the wind in the leaves. FERIEN marks a twist in Arslan's cinema: he switches from the city to nature and uses professional actors for the first time instead of amateurs.
