FES: Filme und Fragen. „Die Unverzichtbaren – Arbeiten an der Basis“

Güven is on the job when others are still asleep: he cleans their workplaces. As a parcel delivery driver, Khaleel ensures that people receive their orders as well as their loved ones' presents. Cynthia looks after people in need of care on a daily basis and says: "Anyone who has ever experienced working in care would never question that it's the person and not the money that counts."

They all have very different areas of work, but they all have one thing in common: they do what is known as basic work. The term is ambiguous: on the one hand, it refers to unskilled and semi-skilled work, but at the same time it also describes the basis of our society. Without grassroots workers like Cynthia, Khaleel and Güven, our society and our country would come to a standstill. These three are at the center of the film reportage "The Indispensables", which Florian Hoffmann shot on behalf of the Progressive Center. In the film, we accompany them at work and learn about their wishes, hopes and political demands. Before the film, Mara Buchstab (Das Progressive Zentrum) will present the project "Die Unverzichtbaren" and the study accompanying the film.

After the film, we will discuss all the questions it has raised with our three experts: Olaf Könemann (parcel deliverer & ver.di trade unionist), Tanja Chawla (DGB Hamburg) and Jan Koltze (Member of the Hamburg Parliament).
