Festkonzert - 75. Landesferienkurs für Musik

In the organizer's words:

The Landesferienkurs für Musik is celebrating its 75th anniversary with musical fireworks. On 08.08.2026 at 19:00, the Landesferienkurs für Musik e.V. invites you to a festive concert in the Nikolaikirche in Kiel, the largest concert in the course's long history.

Over the past decades, the music course has moved from the North Sea to the Baltic Sea across Schleswig-Holstein, from the Nehmten estate on Lake Plön to St. Peter Ording and finally to the Baltic Sea beach at Noer Castle. There, young musicians from Schleswig-Holstein and all over Germany spent ten days working on a concert program to celebrate three quarters of a century of music history. The symphony orchestra concentrated on Weber's Jubel Overture and rehearsed the world premiere of the concert overture "Wieder einmal..." by Florian Herkenrath. The recorder ensemble will bring a piece of course history to life with the "Peruvian Suite" by Arndt von Gavel - a formative companion of the Landesferienkurs für Musik. The big band musicians have rehearsed a series of rousing pieces and will demonstrate their skills in their own improvisations. In addition to the ensemble rehearsals, all course participants will also sing in the joint choir, whose program this year includes well-known titles such as Rheinberger's Abendlied and "Thank you for the Music" by the Swedish band ABBA.

Between the intensive rehearsals, a special atmosphere characterizes the state holiday course for music. In just a few days, a close-knit community is formed from which friendships emerge that often become lifelong companions. The importance of this community is also demonstrated this year by the lively participation of former participants from several decades of Schleswig Holstein's musical history at the festive concert.

For the first time this year, former participants will take part in the concert and revive some emotional highlights from over seven decades of course history: From the powerful sounds of Mendelssohn's "Richte mich Gott" to the sensitive melodies of "All is quiet", in a big band version specially arranged for the course.

In addition to the performances in the various ensembles, all the musicians will also be on stage together and fill the Nikolai Church with Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance" in the style of the world-famous BBC Proms with the vocal power of over 160 participants!

We look forward to welcoming everyone who would like to celebrate three quarters of a century of music with us!
