The audience witnesses the day of Figaro and Susanna's wedding, when events come to a head. The Count, rich, powerful and spoiled by success in love affairs, has long had his eye on Susanna: He wants Susanna to marry him before she marries Figaro. But his calculation is premature. The temperamental Figaro and the not only pretty but also impressively clever Susanna are too cunning.
In the end, everyone sides with the likeable couple, even the Countess, who has been neglected and humiliated by the Count and longs for her husband's tenderness to return. And even chance, without which no comedy can survive, teaches the Count the final lesson that there is no natural right to imaginary claims in life.
