Film im Puschkino – Einar Schleef: Zwei Dokumentarfilme

To mark the 25th anniversary of the death of Einar Schleef (1944–2001), a writer, visual artist, and theater artist born in Sangerhausen, we are partnering with the Puschkino to honor his memory on two occasions. On July 23, 2026, we will screen two short films by documentary filmmaker Hanna Laura Klar (1940–2025), who passed away last year. With “Faust as an Emigrant – Einar Schleef” (38 min.) and “Faust as an Emigrant – Einar Schleef in New York” (58 min.), Hanna Laura Klar offers sensitive insights into the theatrical work, textual and historical understanding, and biography of this radical artist, who, in his works, powerfully and confrontationally brought to light the turmoil of 20th-century German history and its lingering effects in a powerful and confrontational manner. Susanna Köller, director of the museum’s graphic arts collection, will provide an introduction to the film.

The second event at the Puschkino is scheduled for fall 2026 and will feature the film “Einar Schleef – I Have Not Found a Germany” (2026) by director Sandra Prechtel, followed by a discussion between the director and Thomas Bauer-Friedrich, director of the Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale).

The Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale) has been preserving Einar Schleef’s artistic estate since 2004 and has already honored his work in several exhibitions. Since 2019, the estate has been available for viewing at www.einar-schleef.de.
