After 15 years of marriage, Angela (Olivia Wilde) and Joe’s (Seth Rogen) relationship is in crisis. It’s been a long time since they’ve had dinner together with other couples. When Angela spontaneously invites the neighbors from the apartment above them over, it turns out that Pina (Penélope Cruz) and Hawk (Edward Norton) are much more friendly toward them than their distant encounters in the elevator had previously suggested. What was meant to be a convivial evening of small talk about cheese, wine, and interior design turns into a wild roller-coaster ride of emotions. Who’s playing games with whom, and who will lose control in the end?
Inspired by the Spanish film SENTIMENTAL, THE INVITE unfolds as a dialogue-driven fireworks display that’s as funny as it is emotionally charged.
Joe and Angela’s marriage is on thin ice. When they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors to a dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected territory.
