Film: SOLD CITY Teil 2 (Filmgespräch im Anschluß mit Dr. Sarah Klosterkamp)

Therefore two films:
Over a period of three years, and in some cases even longer, we accompanied five protagonists and families who are resisting the system of optimal returns. This is difficult to portray briefly in such a way that anger, hope and perspectives are adequately depicted. A further level is linked to the questions of where the loss of housing and the enormous rent increases come from, who benefits from them and what realistic alternatives there are.

Part 2 - "Expropriation instead of rent for yield"
The film is dedicated to the principle according to which large housing corporations mainly finance shareholder dividends with the rent. On the one hand, we link this to the demand of the popular initiative "Deutsche Wohnen & Co" for the expropriation of large housing groups. On the other hand, we are taking a closer look at housing policy in other countries. In London, the situation for tenants is even worse. Anna Minton, author and lecturer, describes the displacement of the population no longer as gentrification, but as the sterilization of cities. Why does Vienna manage to ensure that private investors have to build two thirds as subsidized apartments and that the tenants are safe for the rest of their lives? Where do we need to rethink in principle? How, for example, does a highly capitalist country like Singapore manage to have 86% of the population living in municipal housing? Would this system be transferable? What are the prospects for this in this country?

Our guest is Dr. Sarah Klosterkamp. She is a research assistant and postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Human Geography at Goethe University Frankfurt. She is interested in topics of urban, social and political geography as well as questions of feminist methodology. She is currently working on the institutional contexts of state welfare and forms of precarious housing and is investigating court proceedings in the context of eviction and forced evictions.
