Five years ago, the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons came into force on January 22, 2021 and since then nuclear weapons have been banned under international law. We celebrated this in the midst of the pandemic with a streaming event from the Kinemathek. The documentary "The Bomb" takes viewers right into the history of nuclear weapons and shows the immense power of nuclear weapons, their sophisticated technology, the missiles and bombers built for them and the deep death wish at the heart of these weapons. The film contains archive footage, animations, text and music. The images and stories are non-linear, but large, memorable and inescapable.
After the film, Stefan Lau from the DFG-VK Karlsruhe will talk about the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons today.
