Filmvorführung: Fidel es Fidel
In the organizer's words:
Film Screening: *Fidel es Fidel* (Dir.: Roberto Chile, 2015, 42 min., original version with subtitles), with commentary and context provided by Tobias Kriele
As part of the exhibition ¡Hasta Siempre, Fidel!, the jW-Maigalerie presents Roberto Chile’s evocative video collage. As Fidel Castro’s personal photographer, hardly anyone was able to observe the Comandante’s political work as closely as Chile. His documentary “Fidel es Fidel” offers an even more intimate insight into this than Chile’s photographs. In it, his life’s work is conveyed not only through interviews and speeches but, above all—and in a deeply moving way—through his closeness to and the support of the Cuban people.
Tobias Kriele, one of the film’s German translators, will guide the audience through the evening and provide commentary to contextualize Chile’s captivating—if not entirely self-explanatory—film. Tobias Kriele lived in Cuba for eight years and earned his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Havana in 2013. Since then, he has produced three documentaries related to Cuba and is also a member of the editorial board of *Cuba Libre*, the magazine of the Germany-Cuba Friendship Society.
