Filmvorführung „Kein Land für Niemand – Abschottung eines Einwanderungslandes“ mit Publikumsgespräch

On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the AWO Bezirksverband Niederrhein and the AWO Kreisverband Essen invite you to a free film screening at the Essen film studio "Glückauf" (Rüttenscheider Str. 2, 45128 Essen). At 4 p.m. we will be showing the documentary "Kein Land für Niemand - Abschottung eines Einwanderungslandes".

The film takes viewers to Europe's external borders, where an ongoing humanitarian crisis has been unfolding for years. It follows rescue missions in the Mediterranean, shows the conditions in refugee camps and gives a voice to people who have survived the dangerous journey to Europe. At the same time, the documentary sheds light on how politics and society in Germany are changing: Right-wing populist positions are gaining influence, flight and migration are increasingly criminalized and humanitarian aid is coming under increasing pressure.

Through interviews with activists, academics and political decision-makers, the film highlights the impact these developments are having on refugees, committed people and our democracy. "No Country for Nobody" invites us to question the common images and narratives about flight and migration and to reflect on humanity, solidarity and responsibility.

Following the screening, all guests are invited to an audience discussion with director Maik Lüdemann, Maike Kratz (volunteer crew member at SOS Humanity - an NGO that has rescued over 39,000 people from distress at sea since 2015) and Achim Gerhard-Kemper (volunteer at Seebrücke and ProAsyl/Flüchtlingsrat Essen). We want to get into conversation together: about personal impressions from the film, about the situation at Europe's borders and about what each individual can contribute to respectful coexistence.
