Millions of people hear this. For seven to ten years. That’s how long it takes, on average, for someone to be diagnosed with endometriosis or adenomyosis.

People are finally talking about these two chronic conditions—at long last. But talking alone doesn’t cure anything. Because women’s and FLINTA* health has been largely neglected by research for decades, there is still a lack of research, reliable diagnoses, and effective treatment. 

In Germany alone, around two million people are affected by endometriosis—many of them young. Severe pain, exhaustion, a body in a
state of emergency. And the constant feeling that you’re just making it up.

“Hidden Heroes”@hiddenheroes_projectis the long-term photography project by
Nietze@d.nietze_fotografiethat focuses on precisely these invisible illnesses. At Garage OST, she is showcasing part of the exhibition—and, for the closing event, presenting a captivating visual lecture with a reading about her project.

Nietze has already presented her artistic lecture at TU Berlin, the University of Applied Sciences
Coburg, at Period of Change, and at Frauenkultur Leipzig. We’re thrilled that the artist is joining us as part of the Leipzig Art Days.
