Escape to Berlin - Director: Will Tremper

The East German farmer Hermann Güden has had enough of the state-ordered harassment of the SED superiors. He is no longer prepared to submit to the forced collectivization at home in his village in Saxony-Anhalt, as this situation no longer offers him any prospects. And so he makes a long-term plan to flee to the West. Güden first sends his wife and child to West Berlin and wants to join them as soon as possible. But the SED apparatchiks get wind of the situation. In the heat of the moment, Güden beats up party comrade Baade and then flees. Meanwhile, another misfortune befell the SED man Baade in Saxony-Anhalt. In order to appease the farmers affected by collectivization, the party chose him as a scapegoat and expelled him from the SED without further ado. Baade, a staunch communist, then wanted to go to Berlin, but to the eastern sector to complain, as he said, "to Ulbricht himself" about the blatant injustice and to seek rehabilitation. But now he is suddenly suspected by his own people of planning to flee the republic. This leaves him with no other solution than to follow Hermann Güden's path and make his way to West Berlin...
