First the Great Depression, then the Second World War - with two young Frisians in New York caught in the middle. Inge and Hermann have emigrated to the USA independently of each other and fall in love in 1938. Then Hermann has to go to the front for the Americans. As a German, will he shoot at Germans? What happens next?
Inge and Hermann's grandson Bente Faust has followed their tracks to Harlem in New York and tells their love story. After the successful podcast "Föhr nach New York - Eine Auswanderergeschichte" (2024 NDR/Honig&Gold/Ferring Stiftung), the stage version now follows. Grandson Bente Faust tells the story of his grandparents together with the Honig&Gold crew in a cast of four with musical interludes. A journey through the events of the first half of the 20th century with all its ups and downs is brought to the stage based on the emigration story of two young Frisians.
The songs composed especially for this story and the impressive projections from the family album give this story a very special character and make the narration of the two speakers a unique experience. The close connection between the small North Sea island of Föhr and the cosmopolitan city of New York becomes tangible and audible.
